Loqa ("we", "our", or "us") operates the loqa.chat messaging platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our service.

By using Loqa, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Username and display name
  • Email address
  • Password (stored as a cryptographic hash — we never store plaintext passwords)
  • Profile avatar (if uploaded)

2.2 Messages & Content

We store messages, files, images, and other content you send through the platform to deliver them to the intended recipients. Content in end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) direct messages is encrypted with keys only you and the recipient hold — we cannot read E2EE content.

2.3 Voice, Video & Screen Sharing

Voice, video, and screen sharing streams are transmitted in real time via WebRTC (powered by LiveKit). We do not record or store voice, video, or screen sharing sessions. Media streams are relayed only to active participants and discarded immediately after the session ends.

2.4 Usage Data

We collect minimal usage data necessary to operate the service:

  • IP address (for rate limiting and abuse prevention)
  • Device type and browser (for compatibility)
  • Timestamps of login sessions

We do not use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or telemetry SDKs.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information solely to:

  • Deliver, maintain, and improve the Loqa platform
  • Authenticate your identity and secure your account
  • Deliver messages and media to intended recipients
  • Enforce our Terms of Service and prevent abuse
  • Respond to support requests

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share data only in the following circumstances:

  • With your consent — when you explicitly authorize a third-party integration
  • Legal compliance — if required by law, subpoena, or legal process
  • Safety — to protect the rights, safety, or property of Loqa, our users, or the public

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data and message history for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time, which will permanently remove your profile and associated data.

Messages with disappearing message settings enabled are automatically deleted according to the configured timer. Deleted messages are purged from our servers and cannot be recovered.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • TLS encryption for all data in transit
  • Argon2id password hashing
  • End-to-end encryption for private DMs
  • Rate limiting and abuse detection
  • Regular security audits

While we strive to protect your data, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Export your data in a machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time

8. Children's Privacy

Loqa is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via the platform or email. Continued use of Loqa after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

10. International Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
